Home Sports Hemraj’s century highlights Enmore 100-Ball tournament
The Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club (ECCCC) 100-ball cricket tournament got off to a rousing start on Sunday with 10 games across five venues on the East Coast of Demerara. 
In the preliminary games being played in a round-robin format across four groups, the highlight of day one’s action was Gobinraj Hemraj’s magnificent 111 (11×4 and 5×6) against Beehive SC at Strathavon Ground.
At Strathavon, the home side defeated Mahaica SC by 10 wickets. Batting first, Mahaica SC made 31 all out (11.3 overs), with U-19 spinner Kevin Latif grabbing 4-4 off his allotted three overs. Strathavon SC then proceeded to chase down their target by scoring 37 without loss from their four overs.
In game two, Strathavon made 179 for 2 from their allotted 100 balls as they defeated Beehive SC by 93 runs.
Hemraj, brother of West Indies player Chanderpaul Hemraj, plundered triple figures while Mohan Ronaid was left unbeaten on 30.
Beehive SC were then restricted to 89 for 9 as Dinesh Vivikanand contributed 31 not out – he was the most substantial scorer. Hemraj and Ronald returned with the ball to grab three wickets apiece for 10 and 13 runs respectively.
Over at Fairfield, the hosts defeated Beehive by seven wickets. Beehive batted first and made 92-7 as H Samlall top-scored with 36 while Richard Chatura and Walter Byrne took two wickets apiece.
Fairfield then chased down the target and scored 97 for 3 (12 overs) with Chatura scoring 43.
Fairfield SC defeated Mahaica SC by seven wickets. Mahaica SC batting first, made an impressive 124 for six wickets (100 balls). Scoring for them were Yeudister Persaud (43) and Darshan Persaud (40) not out as Chatura took three wickets for 17. Fairfield SC then returned to make light work of the total set before them, as they made 126 for 3 (11.3 overs) with Wazim Mustapha scoring 51 and Yudister Persaud claiming 2-13 (2 overs).
In other results, Enterprise B defeated Enmore CCCC B by 6 wickets, then Enterprise A thrashed Paradise SC by 10 wickets. Lusignan A and B defeated Enterprise and LBI respectively.
At Enmore, the home side defeated Mahaica Cavaliers by nine runs; they then got past Lusignan East by 75 runs.
