Herstelling fatal accident victim identified

The woman who was struck down and killed on the Herstelling Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Saturday night has now been identified.

She was identified as Ingrid Mayfield James, 64, of Lot 1294 Section C, Block Y,

Golden Grove, EBD.

According to reports, the identification was made around 13:00h on Monday by the victim’s daughter.

James was killed when she was struck down by a motorist who was said to be speeding at the time of the accident.

The driver of motor car PKK 3251, the vehicle that hit the woman, was identified as a 45-year-old resident of Burnham Boulevard, Mocha, EBD.

Guyana Times understands that the man was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the Herstelling Public Road.

Police investigations revealed that James who was a pedestrian allegedly crossed the road from west to east into the path of the vehicle.

As a result of the impact, the left leg of the woman was severed and she also sustained serious injuries to her head and body.

She was picked up and rushed to the Diamond hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

A breathalyser test was administered to the driver and no alcohol was detected in his breath.

Investigations are continuing.
