Herstelling man arraigned for reputed wife’s murder

A Herstelling, East Bank Demerara man who allegedly strangled his reputed wife, Lowtie Atwaroo, to death on Monday evening was on Thursday arraigned for the heinous crime.
Thirty-eight-year-old Daniel Watson, of Lot 1262 Plantation Walk, Herstelling, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on May 21, 2018, he murdered Atwaroo, called “Mona”.

asked that his client be medically examined and be given an early date for a Preliminary Inquiry (PI).
However, Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh told the court that the investigations into the matter were ongoing and were awaiting statements.
It was reported that the incident occurred about 21:00h on Monday last when Atwaroo went to visit her reputed husband.
Investigations revealed that Atwaroo moved out of the couple’s home over two months ago after being allegedly abused by Watson. However, they allegedly continued a visiting relationship.
Reports are that on the day in question, the woman went to visit her reputed husband and shortly after was seen submerged in a drain.
Watson reportedly fled the scene, but was later apprehended, arrested and charged with the capital offence. The accused was remanded to prison by Magistrate Leroy Daly and would make his next court appearance on May 28.
