Herstelling man to stand trial in High Court for wife’s murder

Thirty-eight-year-old Daniel Watson of Lot 1262 Plantation Walk, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, who is accused of murdering his reputed wife after she allegedly moved out of their home in May last, was on Thursday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the woman’s murder.

It is alleged that on May 21, 2018, he murdered Lowtie Atwaroo, called “Mona”.
Defence Attorney Bernard Da Silva had informed the court that his client was beaten by Police ranks during the probe.
The prosecution contended that at about 21:00h on May 21, 2018, Atwaroo went to visit her reputed husband when the incident occurred.
Investigations revealed that Atwaroo moved out of the home they shared, over two months prior to the incident after she was being abused by Watson. However, they continued a visiting relationship.
Reports are that on the day of the murder, the woman went to visit Watson
and shortly after was seen submerged in a drain. Watson reportedly fled the scene, but was later apprehended and charged with the capital offence.
