Regal Sports Softball tournament
Herstelling Rangers had a perfect record while Speed Boat won one and lost one when the Regal Sport Softball Tournament commenced last Sunday at the Gandhi Youth Organization ground, Woolford Avenue Georgetown with four matches in the open category.
East Bank Demerara team, the Herstelling Rangers first defeated Speed Boat by five wickets. Batting first, Speed Boat were restricted to 107-9 from their 15 overs with Riaz Esau and captain Shazim Hussain making 14 runs each as Michael Alexander and Amir Khan claimed three wickets apiece. Set 108 to win, Herstelling Rangers responded with 112-5 from 13 overs. Zameer Hassan got 27 and Rawl Reid 18.
In their second game of the day, Herstelling Rangers bowlers were once again on target which allowed for a commanding six-wicket victory over Ariel. Ariel took first strike and were bowled out for 77 with Ariel Persaud getting 20 and Dharam Persaud 17. With the ball, Reid and Kishore Ramsarran snared three wickets apiece for Rangers who raced to 78-4. Shameer Fazal cracked 22 and Vijay Persaud 20.
In their second match of the day, Speed Boat rebounded to beat Ariel by 10 wickets in their second encounter of the busy day. Ariel, who suffered their second consecutive defeat managed just 119 all out with Shazim Hussain claiming three wickets for Speed Boat who crashed the hapless Ariel bowling to all parts of the ground on their way to 120 without loss in only five overs. Anand Bharat struck 61 while Beepaul Bandhoo made an even half century.
The tournament continues this weekend with matches in the Open and Masters (Over 45 years old) categories at the Carifesta Sports Complex and GNIC grounds.
