Hetmyer supports BCB food hampers venture for less fortunate
– Foster calls for all to support venture
Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) President Hilbert Foster and his team are continuing to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
As a result of the deadly coronavirus, many families are under lockdown and are struggling to survive this testing period. Under the BCB and the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC), Foster and his team have created this initiative.
BCB President Hilbert Foster
West Indies batting star Shimron Hetmyer and his fiancée have responded to the call to aid in the food hampers project. The couple handed over their donation less than six hours after the BCB made the request.
In a statement on popular social platform Facebook, Foster stated: “Over the last 72 hours, I have received numerous requests from persons who are struggling to survive during this period due to the

problems associated with the coronavirus. People are unable to work and many of them are forced to live on one meal per day. One parent told me that it pains her to see her five kids being hungry and she cannot do anything due to the fact that she has no money to buy foodstuffs. Several of our junior cricketers have also requested assistance.”
Foster further added:” I have always stated that under my leadership, the BCB would be a compassionate body, which would make a positive difference in the lives of others and those less fortunate than us. As such, the BCB would be launching a project to share out at least 200 food hampers to the less fortunate and single-parent households. We would be very grateful if you can join us in this noble venture by donating items for the hampers. We need bags of rice, sugar, potatoes, garlic, salt, onions, split peas, blackeye, flour among other items.”
The BCB is not asking for cash but for the items. Foster and his team are assuring that all donations would be used for the intended purpose. Contact can be made on 337-4443, 641-0890 (Ameer Rahaman) or 333-3905 (Angela Haniff) for more information.
“This is a chance to show that we care and together we can make a difference. There is an old saying that no matter how poor we are, there is always someone poorer than us. Any donation would be welcome. We look forward to your cooperation especially from our current cricketers, club and board officials, overseas-based Berbicians and well-wishers. The RHTY&SC, MS, would kick start the process with a donation of $50,000 worth of food items and we look forward to your cooperation. May God bless you all,” Foster concluded.
