Junior Niles was dethroned on Saturday as Andrew Hicks captured the 13th annual Laparkan 11-race cycling meet.
Fresh off of relative success in Berbice earlier this week, where he placed second behind Andrew ‘Padlock’ Green in the Rose Hall Town Day 40-miler, Andrew Hicks outlasted and outsprinted the likes of Alanzo Ambrose, Paul DeNobrega and Jamaul John to win the 13th Annual Laparkan Holdings Limited 35-lap School boys and Invitational race at the inner circuit of the National Park.
Hicks was a part of the peloton in the initial stages which was led by DeNobrega and John, with defending champion Niles sharing the prime prizes.
Niles had three, Hicks two, while DeNobrega had one.
Hicks won the event in a time of 1 hour 18 minutes 30.28s, while Ambrose was second, De Nobrega third, Jamaul John fourth, Raul Leal fifth and Silvio Innis sixth.
Earlier in the day, Marvin Knight and Zab James were first and second respectively in the BMX Boys 12-14 years.
Jaikaran Sookhai claimed the veterans U-50 race in 11 minutes 38.63s, while Junior Niles was second and Leer Nunes third.
In the Juveniles event, Nigel Duguid held of Adealie Hodge to win the 10-lap race in 26 minutes 11.12s.
Omia McAulay won the mountain bike event in 6 minutes 44s, with Nigel Jacobs coming in second.
