Guinness Greatest of the Street final…
− window of opportunity for Tucville to inflict another upset
Tonight at the National Park Tarmac, two contrasting teams will meet in the final of the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness Greatest of the Street Football Championships and though defending champions Sparta Boss start as favourites, the street-smart Tucville will be no push over.
Sparta have not been at their flawless best compared to previous years but the team who are currently the country champions, have a chance to create a bit of history since no team in the Georgetown zone has ever won the championship twice.
Though conceding early to inaugural winners early Back Circle in their semi-final match on Tuesday, the team managed to rectify the early set back and inflict two goals of their own. It was the demeanour on the field that suggested that they mean business in defending their title.
Devon Millington speaking on behalf of his after the hard fought victory posited that “we feel good going into the finals, it’s a fresh team we are going to play and we just want to remain focus and work hard and win the championships”.
He added that, “We as the Sparta team live as one, we are family and once we play with the love and unity we can accomplish anything we want”.
In support of Millington, the likes of Sheldon Shepherd, Eusi Phillips, Courtney Britton and Solomon Austin are all experienced players who can get the job done.
On the other hand, some have touted Tucville as the “Giant-killers” having reached this stage of the competition by overhauling top team such as Leopold Street and Broad Street Bullies.
Tucville, which is a group players who play for city clubs, have played not in the most flamboyant fashion but rather very strategically which has frustrated their opponents in making mistakes which they are quick to capitalize.
Captain, Delon Williams explained that his team will have a new set of tactics against Sparta and are confident they can claim the title. Players such as Reshawn Sandiford, the Edwards brothers, Dennis and Rafael along with Jermin Junior are handy players who the experience of performing on the big stage.
The two sides will now battle for the first place purse of $500,000 and trophy while the second place side will have to settle for $200,000.
The third place match between Back Circle and Broad Street Bullies will see the winner receiving $150,000 and the loser $100,000 along with respective trophies.
