During the goal spree, some huge upsets occurred as defending champions Sparta Boss suffered a shocking defeat to Holmes Street Tiger Bay.

The Tiger Bay side powered their way to a 4-2 victory due a superb double by Akeem Saul in the 12th and 18th.

Saul was not the only Tiger bay player to treat himself to two goals, as Jamal Blackman notched goals in the 2nd and 23rd minutes.

Sparta’s goals came off the feet of Eusi Phillips in the 13th and Sheldon Shepherd in the 30th.

North Ruimveldt’s quest for their first win in the tournament continues to be put on hold as they drew 1-1 with Leopold Street.

Rondel Williams put Leopold Street in the lead with a 12th minute goal but in the dying minutes Anthony Sancho scored in the 25th.

Laing Avenue and West Back Road also endured a one-all draw in a fiercely competed match. Roy Cassou (22nd) and Odel Williams (7th) supplied the goals for the respective teams.

The other matches saw Channel Nine Warriors down Campbellville 4-1. Joshua Fiffee notched goals in the 15th and 17th and was supported by Ken Wilson, who etched his name onto the score sheet with a double in the 20th and 30th minutes; Adolph George was the lone scorer for Campbellville in the second minute of the match.

Darren Harris and Andre Kerr hit the back of the net in the 2nd and 22nd minutes respectively in Queen Street Tiger Bay 2-0 win over Ministry of Health.

In the final match, Kitty soared to a 5-3 win over Globe Yard despite a hat-trick by Leon Richardson who recorded goals in the 18th, 21st and 23rd minutes.

A team effort was the key in Kitty’s win, with Terrence Lewis and Alpha Sylvester both scoring a double. Lewis scored in the 5th and 27th while Sylvester scored in the 6th and 30th; Nigel Denny was the other scorer in the 17th.

Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two finishers from each group along with the four best third place finishers will advance to the knockout round.

The winning team will collect $300,000 and the Championship trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade.

On the other hand, the third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $50,000 and the corresponding title.

The action resumes this evening at the Santos Training ground, Brickdam from 19:00 Hrs.
