Home News Home of Berbice teacher burglarised
– laptops, cash, mobile phone among items missing
Teacher Tolia Erskine of Lot 48 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam Berbice is now counting her losses after her home was burglarised while she slept in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
The 39-year-old mother of three is insisting that the perpetrators had to use an implement to prise open her main access door to gain entry into the home, although the Police have confirmed there was no sign of forced entry.
Teacher Tolia told Guyana Times she retired to bed late on Monday night, but when she awoke on Tuesday at about 4:00h to make preparation for her children and self to attend school, she found the back door to her home wide open.
Teacher Tolia said she checked her home and realised that the following had gone missing: three laptops, three mobile phones, a television set; a purse containing cash, bank cards and other documents; an internet router and a cable TV control box, food from the refrigerator, her son’s school bag worth $10,000, and her new working bag.
In tears, the widowed educator said she was supporting the teachers’ strike, but could not now join them because she has bills to pay and food to put on the table for her three children.
The Police have since dusted the house for fingerprints as they continue their investigations. No arrest has been made.
