Homeless persons benefit from CIOG outreach

The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) in collaboration with the Guyana Cancer Society held a medical outreach at Niem’s Soup Kitchen, Brickdam, Georgetown, on Thursday which saw more than 200 persons benefitting.
The purpose of the outreach was to provide medical assistance to the community and surrounding area in general.

The residents were able to have their blood pressure and glucose levels tested, HIV and STD testing, and access to mental health care, eye, and dental upkeep, with medical advice from general and specialty doctors.
The medical team was able to provide care to over two hundred homeless persons.
Along with the medical care provided, the residents present were issued with packages that catered for basic daily necessities, inclusive of disinfectant wipes, face masks, clothing, and diapers (both children and adults) and provision of over the counter and prescription medication.

The recipients of the outreach were also able to have access to haircuts and other necessities that cater to their daily hygiene.
The CIOG extended thanks to the management of Niem’s Soup Kitchen for their hard work and dedication and their support as well as the supporting partners including doctors, nurses, and personnel who give their time and services voluntarily in making this humanitarian initiative a successful one.
The outreach was supported by Guyana Medical Relief, the US Embassy to Guyana Civil Affairs and Regional PSYOP Team, SEWA International, Mike’s Pharmacy, the Guyana Cancer Society, National AIDS Programme Secretariat, and International Organisation of Migration, the Cheddi Jagan Dental School, and the Ministry of Health.
