“I don’t think much has changed. Just the mindset. In the recent past, I allowed my game to take care of itself, as long as I am ticking all the boxes I need to tick. I just allow the game to flow, and I just play. There were times in the past I used to overthink the game too much or try to complicate things when it does not need to be. It’s about trusting the process,” Hope said.
The Barbadian added, “Now I have gained that experience learning from the tough times I have been through. I have learned a lot from players and peers. It’s about having a strong mindset, and I think over the years I have grown as a player and as a person.”
Hope is only the second West Indian to score centuries in all three formats after Chris Gayle. Prior to 2025, Hope had not featured in a Test since December 2021.
“I’m happy to be back. It’s not something I would say I was looking forward to in terms of, ‘I have to play Test cricket again. ‘ But if the opportunity comes, I would always be willing to take it.”
“I believe if I’m doing something, I’m committed to it,” he added. “So, if I decide to come back and play Test cricket, my main focus would be to give it my all. If success is there or not, the decision to keep me in or include me, that’s up to the decision makers. But, yes, as long as I’m committed to the task at hand, I think I’m going to give my all,” Hope said prior to his return this year.
Hope is known for his discipline and hard work. His return to Tests has provided literal hope for West Indies fans.
