Hopetown Strikers Club join Berbice Volleyball Association

In defiance of the COVID-19 pandemic and inclement weather, the Hopetown Strikers Volleyball Club was launched yesterday in that West Coast Berbice village in Region 5 (Mahaica-Berbice).
This club consists of both male and female teams, and the launching was by way of having goodwill matches against the Port Mourant Under-17 youths, and an exhibition match against the senior and junior Port Mourant males combined.
President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation, Levi Nedd, welcomed the Hopetown teams to “the Volleyball family”, and thanked them for playing volleyball under the guidance of their coach, national player Ronaldo Bobb.

The day’s event was a success, with Port Mourant youths drawing first blood 30-19 and then being defeated by Hopetown in a return match 30-22. Mixed teams of both males and females continued play, after which an exhibition match was played.
The senior Port Mourant team won that match in 3 straight sets 25-18, 25-23, 25-22.
In the end, tokens of encouragement were given to outstanding players. In the female category, senior player Kenna Thom-Ifill and junior players Wileta Isaacs and Tamara George received tokens of encouragement. For the males, Jason Lachman of Port Mourant juniors and Roberto Sijlman, Eaton McDonald and Shakeel Garraway of Hopetown juniors received tokens.
