Horse racing returns to Georgetown Turf Club

The Georgetown Turf Club at Perseverance Mocha East Bank Demerara hosts a one day horse race meet in celebration of Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary. The six- race programme begins at 13:00 Hrs and includes the unclassified race for which 14 entrants have signaled their intensions of participation.

The feature race will be the “H” Class and lower for a top prize of $200,000 covering a distance of approximately one mile. Additionally, the cart horses will be in action to add to the excitement over six furlongs.

Some of the champion horses that have registered from the various horsing stables around the country are Red Jet, Quincy, Red Region, Little and Blue Lightening.

Turfites will pay $800 to enjoy the day’s events and will be eligible to win a return trip to any Fly Jamaica destination.

There will also be musical entertainment and fun rides for the children.

This race meet is being used to raise funds for the restoration of the Georgetown Turf Club which was established on 26th May, 2002 but has been dormant for the past six years.

Overseas visitors and turfites from out of Demerara are encouraged to show their support for the only turf track in the country and to join with Stag Beer, Modern Furniture Factory, Choke LBI Service Station, Jettoo Lumber Yard to assist with the redevelopment of the only Horse Course in Demerara.
