A 36-year-old housekeeper who ‘bit the hand that fed her’ was charged with larceny and released on ,000 bail by city Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Tuesday, morning at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Shivana Azgar of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, allegedly stole from Virtual Complainant (VC), Luanna Fowler on March 20, 2017, at Duncan Street, Lamaha Gardens, Greater Georgetown, a quantity of gold and silver jewellery, along with $143,000 cash; a total of $413,000. Azgar had initially admitted to the offence, entering a guilty plea.
The seemingly confused woman who was unrepresented, changed her plea to not guilty after the Magistrate explained the consequences of the plea.
The court heard that the accused is a mother of five, employed by the VC, with no pending matters before the court.
Bail was granted to the woman after a no objection motion by the prosecution. The matter stands adjourned to April 4.
