On Sunday, Minister of Housing Collin Croal met with representatives of the Mabaruma Municipality and the Matarkai Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) in Region One to engage in discussions aimed at strengthening service delivery and improving operational efficiency for the benefit of residents.
The engagement comes after he attended a church service and celebrated the elders of the community, whose wisdom and contributions continue to strengthen their communities.

Among those in attendance at the meeting were Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley, Vice-Chairman Paul Pierre, Regional Executive Officer (REO) Sewchand, Assistant REO Jason Ramjohn, Mayor of Mabaruma Trevi Leung, Deputy Mayor Leanne Persaud, and Chairman of the Matarkai NDC Keith Parker.
Minister Croal, along with regional officials, had previously served brunch to senior citizens from Amerindian villages in central Mabaruma, Region One, during the annual Senior Citizens Brunch at the St Joseph Roman Catholic Church.
In addition, the Minister earlier joined worshippers at the St Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Mabaruma, Region One, for the observance of the Feast of the Epiphany, alongside the church’s Annual Senior Citizens Service and Brunch.
The Feast of the Epiphany – observed on January 6 or the closest Sunday – commemorates the revelation of Jesus Christ and signifies the conclusion of the Christmas season for members of the Catholic faith.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister underscored the importance of honouring and celebrating the elderly, recognising them as custodians of wisdom, culture and community values. He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continuing the rollout of initiatives aimed at improving the well-being, dignity and quality of life of senior citizens.
Also in attendance are Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley, Vice-Chairman Paul Pierre, Mayor of Mabaruma Trevi Leung, Deputy Mayor Leanne Persaud, and Regional Education Officer Annansha Peters.
