The skeletal remains of a human were on Tuesday discovered in a cane field in East Canje operated by the Rose Hall Estate of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo).
The discovery was made by a cane harvester.
According to the Police, two security officers visited the Reliance Police Station and reported that a skeleton was found at Enterprise A, Field One.
The cane harvester related that about 07:45h, he was working in the area when he discovered a skull and several bones that appeared to be human remains. That information was passed on to the security officers.
The remains were removed by the Police.
Seekumar Balram, one of the other workers who were working in the said area, stated that he saw a group of about a dozen workers gathered and when he enquired, he was told of the finding of the remains.
He said none of the workers had any clue of the identity of the person or how long the remains might have been there. The remains were removed and taken to a funeral home, where it is expected that DNA testing will be conducted to determine the identity of the person.
Just one month ago, the remains of a human being were discovered by an excavator operator working at Esplanade in New Amsterdam.
Police had detailed that the remains were found in a bag, and what appeared to be male underwear along with a pair of three-quarter pants were also in the bag suggesting that the body had been placed into the bag and dumped in what was then bushes.
