The skeletal remains believed to be that of a female were last Sunday discovered at Thomas Island, Puruni River, Region Seven.
Based on reports received, a security personnel stumbled upon the remains while heading to an internet cafe to make a call. He, however, reported the findings to the Police on Tuesday.
As such, a party of Police ranks was dispatched to the scene to conduct preliminary investigations.
Due to its present state, identification of the body — clad only in a brassiere and still having some amount of flesh — was not possible.
The Police are making checks to determine if a missing person’s report had been made of recent. However, a Police source has confirmed that no such report was made.
Nevertheless, the Police are continuing their investigations.
A post mortem is expected to be performed on the remains to determine the cause of death. The Police have since questioned several persons in the area, but to no avail.
