CG United Regional Super50 tournament: Hurricanes subdue Volcanoes
The Leeward Islands Hurricanes have registered a commanding 114-run win over the Windward Islands Volcanoes in a match of the CG United Regional Super50 tournament played yesterday at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Having won the toss and deciding to bat first, the Hurricanes posted 293 all out in 50 overs; then subdued the Volcanoes to 179 all out in 42.3 overs.
Justin Greaves took centre stage, having produced a responsible 121, his maiden List A century, which anchored the Hurricanes’ innings. After Kieran Powell was bowled by Shermon Lewis for 11, the Justin Greaves show unfolded with him hitting 10 fours and one six during his 126-ball innings before he was bowled by Shamar Springer.
Springer also removed Keacy Carty for 14, but Jahmar Hamilton motored to 50 from 72 balls, hitting six boundaries along the way. Hamilton added 85 for the third wicket with Greaves before popping a simple return catch to Darel Cyrus.
Cameos also came from Alzarri Joseph (24) and Terance Ward (22). Lewis ended with 3-68, while Springer and Cyrus each snared two wickets: for 45 and 52 runs respectively.
A less-than-inspiring performance from the Volcanoes batsmen proved costly, as only Springer erupted with his second List A half-century: his 70-ball innings highlighted by five fours and one six.
Alick Athanaze got a solid start with 39 from 58 balls, during which he stroked six boundaries before being bowled by Daniel Doram. Kavem Hodge also got a start with a 55-ball 38, but failed to see his side over the line.
Hayden Walsh was the architect of the Volcanoes’ destruction, returning figures of 4-40. He was supported by Doram with 2-29 as Volcanoes lost their last five wickets for a measly 44 runs.
