Hururu resident sentenced to 6 months for robbery

Joshton Walker, 24, was sentenced to six months by Magistrate Christel Lambert on Wednesday on a charge of robbery with violence following his appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard that the defendant, a saw operator and father of three robbed Paul Sarmonto, of $270,000 in cash and an Alcatel cell phone valued $7000.

The court also heard that the defendant used personal violence against Sarmonto during the course of the robbery, which occurred on Thursday, July 28 at Hururu Mission, Upper Berbice.

Facts on the matter presented to the court indicated that Walker is known to the defendant since they are in-laws.

On the day of the incident the two were consuming alcohol when the defendant choked and relieved Walker of his belongings including the cash.

During the ordeal Walker was said to have lost consciousness.
