A post-mortem examination has determined that 88-year-old pensioner Michael Raymond Haralall Tamassar died from heart failure.
The examination was conducted on Friday at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary by Government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh. Following the examination, Tamassar’s body was handed over to relatives to facilitate funeral arrangements.
Tamassar, also known as “Mike”, died on Thursday at the Bladen Hall School Compound Living Quarters, East Coast Demerara, where he had been residing with his son. Police reported that he was last seen alive at about 07:00h by his son. At approximately 09:38h, he was found unresponsive in the living room of the residence.
Detectives who examined the body at the scene reported that no marks of violence were observed on the exposed areas. Tamassar was subsequently taken to the Buxton Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. His body was later transferred to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary pending the post-mortem examination.
Police have stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
Tamassar had previously been arrested and was assisting Police with investigations into the death of his wife, 89-year-old Lackandai Tamassar. Her body was discovered late last month at their residence on Ogle Airstrip Road, East Coast Demerara.
According to a Police report issued on January 1, 2026, Lackandai Tamassar’s body was found with apparent stab wounds. Investigators believe the incident occurred between Friday, December 26, and Tuesday, December 30, 2025. She was last seen alive on December 26 by a relative who visited the home.
When the relative returned on December 30, the elderly woman was found lying motionless with visible injuries. She was taken to the Plaisance Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, and her body was later transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
Police had confirmed that Michael Tamassar was present at the residence when his wife’s body was discovered. He was arrested at the time and was assisting with the investigation before being released from custody.
