Husband, wife charged for killing neighbour

A 29-year-old man and his 43-year-old reputed wife, who allegedly beat their neighbour to death, were slapped with a murder charge.
Dhanraj Ramkishan, also known as “Ganga”, of Long Dam, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Deomattie Salikram, known as “Shobma”, of Lot 10 Helena No 1, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Marissa Mittleholzer at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court. It is alleged that on February 5, 2020, at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, they murdered 48-year-old Gopaul Seeram. The couple were remanded and the case will continue on February 28.
According to reports, the couple reportedly beat the farmer with a piece of wood during an argument.
Police stated that the incident stemmed from the now-dead man’s wife rejecting phone calls from the female suspect. This newspaper was told that the female suspect resides at Helena, Mahaica, ECD.
However, whenever she is in the area, the woman would call the victim’s wife to inquire whether her husband was at home.
According to reports, on the day of the incident, the woman called and the victim’s spouse terminated the call without responding.
The female suspect then went to the couple’s home to confront the woman about disconnecting the call. The confrontation led to a heated argument and the women’s husbands intervened.
Guyana Times was told that the two suspects allegedly armed themselves with pieces of wood and allegedly dealt the now-deceased man several lashes about his head and body.
The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
A Post-Mortem Examination conducted on Wednesday by Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that Seeram died from multiple injuries as a result of blunt trauma.
