Former Guyana Under-15 batsman Farook Hussain hit a belligerent 106 to spur Apollo Cricket Club to a resounding 208-run victory over Malton Cricket Club when action continued recently in the Etobicoke Cricket League 50-over round-robin competition.
The right-handed Berbician struck seven fours and three sixes in his 69-ball century as his team piled up a massive 429-8 off the 50 overs. In reply, the host team, Malton, were 221 all out in the 38th over.
Hussain was engaged in several attacking partnerships with the first being 80 with his opening partner, Daryal Narine, who contributed 27.
Hamlet Gordon, batting down the order, also showed good aggression at the crease by hitting an entertaining 80, laced with seven fours and a six.
Another former Guyana youth cricket Harrienarine Chattergoon weighed in with 40 while Surujnarine Kandasammy scored 40 as well. Adrian Sukhwa was also among the runs, striking two effortless sixes and three fours in a cameo 37 as spinner Marc Isa picked up two wickets for 49 runs from six overs.
In Malton’s innings, Viabhav Parashar batted beautifully to make 98, which counted five sixes and two fours and Rakulan Santhiralingam made 27. Captain and off-spinner Dion Siewdyal snapped up three wickets for 31 runs from seven overs while Travis Mohammed supported with two wickets. Apollo now have nine victories from 11 encounters, with one loss and one rained-out fixture. The action continues this weekend. (Ravi Madholall)
