“I took the phone” – teen admits to seawall robbery

A 19-year-old construction worker entered a guilty plea to an armed robbery allegation while at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts On Wednesday.
Justin Ollivierre of Lot 62 Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD) made an appearance before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.
On January 22 he robbed John Satnarine of a $30,000 Samsung cell phone along the Georgetown Seawall.
He did this while in the company of others and armed with a knife.
An unrepresented Ollivierre told the magistrate, “I took the phone,” when he was given the opportunity to speak to the court, but he denied threatening the victim with a knife.
According to the police prosecutor’s account of the facts, at about 12:30h on Monday, Ollivierre—who was carrying a knife—as well as two other men approached Satnarine as he was waiting for transportation near the Kitty roundabout.
They then demanded Satnarnie to have over his possessions, but when he refused. During a confrontation between the victim and the robbers, the robbers stole the victim’s phone and hurt him.
After that, the three fled on foot, but Ollivierre was caught by Police after the victim raised an alarm. The Police found a knife in Ollivierre’s pants waist and Satnarine’s cell phone in his pocket.
Satnarine was taken to the hospital for treatment after the incident.
Ollivierre will be sentenced for the crime for which he acknowledged guilt on February 14, at which point the court will hear a probation report.
Until then, he was remanded to prison.
Ollivierre is also charged with carrying out a second robbery that same day.
At the Georgetown Seawall, he is accused of robbing Rawle Fiedtkou of a $30,000 Samsung phone and $15,000 while he was with other people and carrying a knife.
He entered a not-guilty plea to this allegation. He was remanded to prison after bail was denied. (G1)
