Carlos “The Showstopper” Petterson-Griffith was undeniably the man to watch as he went on to crush his national squat, deadlift and total records on Sunday last as the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) hosted its Masters and Immediate Championships. This event was hosted at the Saint Stanislaus College, which saw a total of 19 records being broken.

The event featured the Masters and Intermediate categories. Keisha Abrigo (Female Intermediate); Alex Parmanand (Male Intermediate); Homwattie Hirawan (Female Masters); Frank Tucker (Male Masters Equipped) and Noel Cummings (Male Masters Equipped) all walked away with the overall best lifter titles.
Petterson-Griffith, who is preparing for international duties in the PanAm Regional Powerlifting Championship, needed to push in some excellent performances ahead of the much-anticipated tournament.

Alex Parmanand was dominant in the junior unequipped division

The powerhouse shattered his personal best records which he recorded in April 2021. In April, he recorded a total of 822kg – Squatting 307kg, Bench Press 165kg and Deadlift 350kg. While on Sunday he tallied figures of 85 kg – Squat 330kg, Bench Press 160kg and Deadlift 360kg.
When asked how he felt about his results as time draws closer, Petterson-Griffith said, “I feel good; nevertheless I’m thankful for yesterday’s turnout of upcoming athletes and supporters. For the NAPF/FESUPO and Pan American championship, I’m among the top three and for Worlds the work continues since I’m just three months away from it. “

Keisha Abrigo won her 69 KG Class

Meanwhile, Abrigo walked away with yet another medal as she outshined her opponents in the 69kg class. The Exodus Gym member recorded a best squat of 137.5kg, best bench press of 60kg, a deadlift of 172.5kg as well as the highest good lift points of 77.183.
Parmanand, on the other hand, broke records in the squat, bench press, deadlift and total records in the junior unequipped division. He recorded excellent figures of 237.5kg squat, 127.5kg bench press, 255kg dead lift and good lift points of 78.458, which was the highest among the intermediates.
