Excitement continues to mount for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, set to begin at the Guyana National Stadium on June 2, and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at Timehri is gearing up to welcome a surge of visitors with a focus on swift and hassle-free entry.
CJIA said on Friday that increased staffing for immigration and customs has already been put in place in order to expedite arrival procedures, thereby ensuring a swift and hassle-free entry for all visitors; and the CJIA, in collaborating closely with authorities from Immigration, Customs, and the Local Organizing Committee, has diligently prepared a streamlined process for cricketers and fans arriving during the tournament action over the weekends.
Moreover, in underscoring its partnership with various agencies, the CJIA has put in place a comprehensive security plan to guarantee a smooth and secure arrival experience for players, fans, and all tourists. Heightened vigilance and close monitoring of security with the aim of maintaining a safe environment throughout each game night is central to these efforts. Chief Executive Officer of the CJIA, Ramesh Ghir, has said the airport’s unwavering commitment is to prioritising the safety and security of everyone entering Guyana. In emphasizing the ongoing collaboration with relevant authorities, Ghir reaffirmed that robust plans are continuously updated in order to effectively address any potential risk.
Meanwhile, in a bid to better the overall fan experience, a dedicated line system will be introduced specifically for cricket tournament attendees, further facilitating their arrival experience through the airport. Additionally, all frontline staff would proudly display branded jerseys bearing a warm “Welcome to Guyana” message, creating a welcoming atmosphere for incoming teams from the West Indies, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, and Afghanistan.

The police on Friday issued a traffic advisory for the ICC games in Guyana, in which patrons, including VIPs in vehicles, have been instructed to proceed south along the eastern drive lane of the eastern carriageway of the East Bank Demerara Public Road in order to access the Guyana National Stadium.
The GPF have also advised drivers proceeding further south of the National Stadium to use the western drive lane of the eastern carriageway of the East Bank Public Road.
The third lane, along the eastern drive lane of the western carriageway of this roadway, would be utilized to filter traffic west across the Demerara Harbour Bridge, and this would be facilitated by traffic ranks.
