Though the West Indies Women’s team could only manage two losses in their 2026 International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up matches this week, Barbadian all-rounder Deandra Dottin has looked promising with the bat, accumulating 95 runs.
While her teammates were not quite up to the task in the warm-ups, Dottin is happy to be amongst the runs after a lot of hard work.
Dottin shared after their last warm-up fixture, “Going through today’s innings against Australia, it’s actually our second warm up game, it was basically for me to go to the crease and to find some form and get some runs so that I’m actually peaking at the right time for my team.”
“I think that I’ve been putting in a lot of hard work in the past, working on a lot of things, changing a couple of things but trying not to change too much,” the all-rounder further divulged.
Dottin went on to detail the pressure she felt, discussing being able to “peak” at the right time, with the World Cup one day away.
“At first, I was being hard on myself and putting a lot of pressure on myself because things weren’t going the way I wanted it to. But I think that was actually the form and the pattern it was supposed to go, Dottin explained, “I wasn’t supposed to peak too early. So, now that I’m actually getting some runs and getting a feel of it, it’s really good. It’s coming at the right time.”
While the World Cup bowls off today, the West Indies’ women will open their campaign on Saturday, June 13, against defending champions New Zealand at the Rose Bowl, United Kingdom, from 13:30h.
In other team news, Vice Captain Chinelle Henry will be undergoing assessments ahead of the World Cup opener after sustaining an injury against Australia’s women on Wednesday during their last warm-up match.
