The Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) has reminded members of the public that it is illegal and unsafe to place any structures or objects on its poles and electrical infrastructure.
The company cited Section 5.4 of its Standard Terms and Conditions for Electric Services, which states that customers must not place any structures that interfere with the proper and safe operation of, or access to, GPL facilities.
GPL said this includes erecting, attaching, placing, or installing structures, signs, banners, wires, advertisements, cables, or any other objects on its utility poles and related infrastructure.
According to the company, such actions can disrupt the safe operation and maintenance of the electricity network and may lead to damage to infrastructure or interruptions in electricity supply. GPL also warned that unauthorised attachments to utility poles pose serious risks, including electrocution, severe injury, or death.
The utility company stated that individuals found engaging in such activities may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
According to the power company, members of the public are being urged to avoid interfering with GPL’s facilities and to report any unauthorised attachments or unsafe activities near the electrical network. Reports can be made to GPL’s call centre at 226-2600 or via WhatsApp on 608-9090.
