Improvised weapons, drugs found during raid at NA Prison
Members of the Joint Services on Monday unearthed a number of contraband items during a raid at the New Amsterdam Prison.
According to the Police Commander for Region Six (East Berbice-Cornetyne), Senior Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, the raid commenced at about 05:00h and lasted just over three hours.
Among the items found were seven improvised weapons, a quantity of razor blades and two grams of cannabis.
Additionally, ranks also discovered one cellular phone, twenty lighters, pepper sauce and two cell phone chargers.
This came just hours after a similar exercise at the Lusignan Prison where contraband items including improvised weapons and drugs were discovered.
During the search, the Police stated that 26 knives, 44 “juka”, 19 lighters, six pairs of scissors, 12 cell phones, two SIM cards, two memory cards, five razor blades, a quantity of cell phone parts, 10 cell phone chargers, a quantity of metal objects, a quantity of wires, and 83 small transparent ziplock bags containing ganja were found.
