Inaugural Berbice Basketball Association tournament begins tonight
The first edition of the Berbice Basketball Association (BBA) tournament will begin today at the Fyrish Basketball Court. The tournament which will be under the stewardship of Vibert Garrett, President of the BBA will see six teams vying for the Championship trophy and cash prize.
The tournament which is being sponsored by the Nigel Hinds Financial Corporation will begin with the opening game pitting the Canje XI against the New Amsterdam XI at the Fyrish Court at 16:00h.
Basketball action will begin in Berbice today
Initially seven teams were slated to participate in the tournament which will run on a round robin basis in Two Zones; however Smithfield Rockers have indicated that they are unavailable for the tournament.
Zone A will consist of Fyrish Black Shark, Ithaca Hardliners and Canje while Zone B will have the Rose Hall Jammers, N A Warriors and Hopetown Stealers.
The tournament which begins on June 18 will be played on a weekend basis and is expected to conclude on August 13.
