Increased incentives at 2nd Independence 5K & 10K road races

This Sunday some of the Guyana’s top distance runners will compete in the second Independence 5K and 10K road races and they will be racing for some lucrative cash incentives.

Burgette Williams-Forde showcases the Invicata that will be awarded to the top male and female

This was disclosed by  one of  the organisers  Burgette Williams-Forde on Wednesday during a press briefing Athletics Association of Guyana’s (AAG) Head Office in Light Street, Georgetown.
The top male and female athletes will win $40,000 along with trophy along and Invicata watch.
Second to fifth  will receive $30,000, $20,000, $15,000 and $10,000 respectively while the   top three in  the Masters category  will go home with $20,000, $15,000 and $10,000 apiece.
Likewise, the top three in the under-16 and 20 will win bicycles while the oldest and youngest male and female with the fastest times will be rewarded.
Meanwhile, Williams-Forde in her address stated that the group is simply focused on helping athletes, but has a more instinctive approach to the process of doing such.
“We are not here to step on anybody’s shoes, we know there is a lot going on here, but what we do is that if any one of us has an idea we follow it”.
Coach Kenrick Smith revealed that the group has its sights set on hosting inter-club relays in 2018 in conjunction with the AAG. Smith also shared that he intends to host a workshop with coaches on Friday with the aim of highlighting how to build programmes.
The race will start and end at the National Insurance Ground on Carifesta; race time is 06:00 hrs.
After the race, there is expected to be a health fair.
