Independence defeat McGill to claim WDCA T20 Title

The action in the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) T20 Knockout Competition continued over the weekend with MC Gill Superstars losing the title match and going down to Independence Sports Club by a mere 2 wickets.
With the action being held at the popular Joe Vieira Park, Independence won the toss and opted to bowl first on their home turf. McGill posted 140-8 in their allotted 20 overs, as Prahalad Singh top scored with an unbeaten 55* (3×4, 6×6), Keshram Seyhodan made a quick-fire 25, and Sudesh Persaud chipped in with 14 (3×4). Leading the bowling for Independence were Reaz Esau with 3-17, Ricky Sergeant with 2-16, and Ewart Samuels with 2-19.

Prahalad Singh’s unbeaten 55 was not enough to save McGill Superstars

Needing 141 runs to win at just over 7 runs per over, Independence wasted no time in displaying their hunger for the title by picking the gaps with ease and precision.
The McGill players were frustrated, as things did not go their way. A series of unfortunate events gradually unfolded and resulted in their losing the game. Their main bowler sprained his ankle in attempting to field a ball; then one of their fielders was struck by a ball to the abdomen; and because of the uneven bounce of the pitch, the team’s left-arm spinner injured his finger.
However, the McGill side employed their best efforts as they fought to the very end despite having a depleted side.
Independence attained 141-8 to secure victory in 19.2 overs. Top scoring for Independence were Vivian Beckles with 53 (8×4, 3×6), Mahendra Dhanpaul with 31 (3×4, 2×6), and Ewart Samuels with 16*.
Leading the bowling for the losing side were Keshram Seyhodan with 2-20, Abdul Razack with 2-22, Daniel Basdeo with 2-33 and Travis Persaud with 1-8.
