India A make light work of West Indies A to clinch series 2-0
In action in the second unofficial test, wherein West Indies ‘A’ battled India ‘A’ at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, India ‘A’ resumed the final day on 185-3, needing only 93 runs to register yet another victory and lead the three match test series 2-0.
India ‘A’ openers Mayank Agarwal and Priyank Panchal laid the foundation in the chase on day 3, but either batsman eventually fell, for 68 and 84 respectively.
Hanuma Vihari was unable to add anything substantial, as he fell for one off six balls.
At the end of day 3, Chemar Holder and Raymond Reifer claimed 2 wickets and 1 wicket respectively.
Heading into the final day, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Anmolpreet Singh frustrated the Windies bowlers. The pick of the bowlers was Chemar Holder, who bagged 5 the previous day. Raymond Reifer and Romario Shepherd were unable to phase the Indian batsmen. Despite a desperate attempt at using part time bowlers, the Indian batsmen could scent victory before them.
Singh and Easwaran dug deep and put together a solid 103-run partnership while each scored half-centuries. In the end, Easwaran finished the match with a boundary off the off-spin of Kraigg Braithwaite, to have India ‘A’ end on 281-3 and grasp victory by 7 wickets.
Both Easwaran and Singh remained unbeaten on 62 and 51 respectively. Bowling for the West Indies ‘A’, Chemar Holder took 2-51 and Raymond Reifer 1-51.
Both teams will now focus on the 3rd unofficial test, slated for August 6 to 9 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.
