The Home Affairs Ministry has announced the launch of four specialised training programmes for the Guyana Police Force (GPF), inaugurated on Tuesday, through collaboration between India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the High Commission of India in Guyana.
According to a social media post from the Ministry, the programmes were launched in the presence of Home Affairs Minister, Oneidge Walrond. The training areas include fingerprint science and questioned documents; a five-day programme on SMART and predictive policing; preventing human trafficking: issues, challenges, and preventive measures; and a one-week programme on artificial intelligence for investigation.

The initiative is part of ongoing cooperation between Guyana and India and aligns with a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Rashtriya Raksha University and the National Defence Institute. The MoU was concluded during the State Visit of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Guyana on November 20, 2024, in the presence of President Dr Irfaan Ali.
Representatives from Rashtriya Raksha University expressed appreciation for the participation of India’s High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr Amit Telang; Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, Colonel Sheldon Howell; and Dr K M Praphullachandra Sharma, Joint Secretary in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, South America Division, at the opening ceremony.
