“So, we have as you know excellent experts, professionals in Information Technology, in medicine, you name it, in all the various branches. This is as part of our international co-operation programme. We have something called the ITECH –the Indian Technological and Educational Co-operation Programme wherein we give scholarships, short term scholarships fully paid for young students and graduates in this country in various fields in IT, geology, in mining, in agriculture, you name it, there are various courses.”
The Indian High Commissioner stated that the scholarship initiative is executed in good faith by strengthening the bi-lateral relations that it already shares with Guyana.
He noted that education is a vital part of propelling any nation forward and it is with this in mind that his country is positioning itself to assist more Guyanese students with the chances of securing this much needed form of development.
“We are ready to extend that co-operation and we are trying to increase the slots for Guyana. Secondly, we are also going to work on the culture front wherein we can give people to go to India and learn the rich heritage and culture…. we have to work to build the skills and education for the youth of this country. As you know, India is progressing tremendously and it is growing at a rate of 7 percent annually at the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) level, this is all thanks to the impetus that the forefathers of Indian nation gave to education.”

“You know India and Guyana have been great friends throughout all these years and my brief in Guyana is to further strengthen the bi-lateral relations between India and Guyana. Also to work through the CARICOM Secretariat to strengthen the relationship with the Caribbean nations, the Caribbean Community and India.”
