Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal led a team to a section of Plantation York, designated for the construction of homes.
President Dr Irfaan Ali unveiled plans for the construction of 150 homes for medical professionals in the area, during his recent Cabinet Outreach to Region 10. The developing scheme is situated along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The first phase of infrastructural work includes land clearing and the creation of access routes is ongoing for the subsequent construction phase of the homes.
A team of engineers and other technical staff from the Central Housing & Planning Authority (CH&PA) and contractors were on the ground with the Minister.
President Ali visited Region 10 on Saturday where he announced that pending applications for doctors, nurses and medical technicians will be soon be processed.
A total of 1000 homes are in the construction phase at Plantation York, accelerating the Government’s housing initiative.
“We’re now developing Plantation York. I have asked that before the end of this year, those 150-plus who have applied must have them pre-qualified and have the bank approve their loans. So, by the first quarter of next year, they can move into their young professional homes.
Ali said such initiatives change conditions and circumstances, improve net value, and create opportunities for future generations.
Constructed on 500 acres of land, Plantation York will include a residential area as well as commercial and industrial zones. The housing development includes the building out of roads, bridges, drainage and culverts as well as utilities.
Since taking office in 2020, the PPP/C Administration has distributed more than 23,500 house lots to date, and is working aggressively to meet the target of 50,000 by the end of its 5-year tenure in 2025.
The Ministry has been constructing ‘young professional’ homes in several areas across the country. During the Linden Building Expo held in May, Croal announced an investment of approximately $600 million towards constructing 200 core homes in Silica City on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
