Slain bandit: Trydon Munroe

Both men were shot at by a private bodyguard who was accompanying a businesswoman from the Eugene F Correia International Airport with a parcel believed to have contained a substantial amount of cash and gold.
Reports indicate that the businesswoman was cornered along the Liliendaal Railway Embankment Road in the vicinity of the Giftland Mall junction, when a dark coloured vehicle drove into her path, blocking her. Two men then exited that vehicle bearing weapons, and pounced on the businesswoman, being unaware that her armed escort was seated in the vehicle.

Mark Griffith, the suspected accomplice in the botched Liliendaal robbery, is also wanted by the Police in Berbice

Dismissed Prison Officer, Trydon Munroe of Levi Dam, Angoys Avenue, New Amsterdam was shot and killed by the businesswoman’s bodyguard during the robbery attack, while his accomplice escaped with gunshot wounds, but later surfaced at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Griffith on May 29, 2017, was sentenced to two years in his absence by Magistrate Alex Moore at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court after the former Prisoner Officer was found guilty of armed robbery. A committal warrant was issued and Griffith was not seen.
Griffith on September 21, at Number 2 Village Corentyne, while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, broke into the dwelling house of Navindra Singh also called “Surish” and stole two cellular phones, an electronic tablet and a laptop computer along with $270,000 worth of jewellery and $40,000 in cash.
Griffith was arrested a few days later when Police intercepted a car he was driving along the East Canje Main Access Road at Cumberland and discovered one of the missing cellphones.
Earlier, investigators were led to a house where a relative of Griffith lived as they tracked one of the phones. The relative is reportedly a member of the Guyana Police Force.
