One-year-old Besham Sohan and his older brother, four-year-old Gansham Sohan, who were severely burnt about their bodies earlier this month, will be receiving medical attention overseas as the duo was medevacked to the United States of America last Saturday to commence the treatment.
The urgent medical care that the lads needed was made possible through Non-Governmental Organisation, Saving Hands Emergency Aid (SHEA), which raised funds for transporting the youngsters at the cost of US$45,000.
The brothers were being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where the younger Sohan was on life support while his older sibling was in the Burn Care Unit, but due to the severity of their burns and the unavailability of the advanced treatment in the country, overseas treatment was sought.
According to information provided by SHEA via social media, the incident occurred on August 16 at their Number 48 Village, Corentyne home. The mother of the boys lit materials to drive away mosquitoes and turned her attention away for a short period of time, but by then the older Sohan had thrown dry grass into the fire, causing it to flare up and burn both him and his brother severely.
