Injured cyclist identified as North Ruimveldt resident

The pedal cyclist who was struck down by a senior rank of the Guyana Defence Force on Mandela Avenue and Arapaima Street, Georgetown, on Saturday, was identified as 71-year-old Joseph Richards of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The pensioner was identified by his son on Tuesday at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
It was reported that on Saturday at about 22:15, the motor car driven by the GDF rank was heading along Mandela Avenue and in the vicinity of Arapaima Street, Richard attempted to ride across the road, thus causing a collision. As a result, Richards fell onto the roadway and sustained severe head and bodily injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by the GDF rank and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted in a critical condition.
On Tuesday, the Public Relations Department of the Guyana Police Force confirmed that the injured man remains a patient at the medical facility in an unresponsive state.
