Inmate found dead in cell at Lusignan Prison

Dead: Lindon Lamaizon

Lindon Lamaizon, who was convicted on a causing death by dangerous driving charge, was found dead in his cell at Lusignan Prison on Wednesday morning around 06:00h during a routine check conducted by on-duty officers.
The Guyana Prison Service reported that Lamaizon was found unresponsive, and his blood pressure and pulse were immediately checked. A nurse was unable to obtain a reading, and a doctor was contacted. Upon examination, Lamaizon was pronounced dead.
Lamaizon had recently been discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was diagnosed with kidney failure and was undergoing treatment at the time of his death. An investigation has been launched.
The man was convicted in 2021.
This incident follows the recent death of another inmate, Niron Yacoob, at Mazaruni Prison. Yacoob, a 44-year-old murder convict, was found dead in his cell less than a month ago after complaining of shortness of breath. He was pronounced dead at Bartica Hospital.
Yacoob was serving a 66-year sentence for murder and had several underlying medical conditions. On the day of his death, he had complained of shortness of breath around 00:26h and was immediately taken to the Prison’s Infirmary, where he received medical attention before passing away. (G9)
