GCB Inter-County Under-17 tourney: UNBEATEN DEMERARA CROWNED U17 CHAMPIONS

…Van Lange, Mahabir had most runs, most wickets

In the fifth and final round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB’s) Under-17 Inter-County tournament, Essequibo played Berbice on Friday July 1 at the GCB Cricket Facility at La Bonne Intention, ECD and were comprehensively defeated.

Alvin Mahabir picked up the most wickets of the tournament

Berbice won the toss and elected to bat, scoring a meagre 83 all out from 36.1 overs. Salim Khan was the lone batter to reach double figures, and extras top scored with 26.
Thaddeus Lovell, the most effective Essequibo bowler, grabbed 3 for 13, and was supported by Shaaziff Mohamed and Gulcharran Chulai with 2 for 8 and 2 for 2 respectively.
In response, scoring runs was well-nigh impossible for Essequibo, and they fell short of their target by 29 runs. Thaddeus Lovell came back strong with the bat to top score with 23, while Shaaziff Mohamed scored 11.

Bowling for Berbice,
Rashaad Gaffur collect the best figure of 3 for 3 from 3 overs, while Afax Ali Budhoo took 2 for 22, Salim Khan took 2 for 6, and Sanjay Algoo took 2 for 11.
Berbice won by 29 runs, but Thaddeus Lovell claimed the Man of the Match award.
Demerara were declared the winners after playing unbeaten throughout the tournament, and Skipper Alvin Mahabir claimed the award for taking the Most Wickets: 11, whikle Jayden Dowlin collected 7.
Jonathon Van Lange walked away with the award for Most Runs: 104, while Alvin Mahabir scored 83 runs.
Berbice Team were awarded the Runner Up position in this tournament.
