Guyana Jaguars and Trinidad and Tobago Red Force will lock horns today Saturday February 27 from 13:30h at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua in the grand finale. On the eve of the match, both captains spoke about the importance of this clash and the upbeat spirts of both teams.
Guyana Jaguars captain Leon Johnson said it is important for the Jaguars to get it right in a final. “It’s about time that we put it together in a final, especially with the bat a lot of times we lost final and we were not able to put it together with the bat. The bowlers have held their own not just in this competition but in previous competitions,” Johnson said.
Looking at the stats, Johnson said his team is the best bowling unit in the competition. The Guyana franchise that last won a Super50 since 2005 will be aiming to rewrite the history books even though not many critics and cricket pundits have not given them a chance. Johnson said that his team know how hard it is to always go to a final and suffer a defeat.
“Not just only in Super50 but in our franchise based T20 cricket (CPL), we got to five finals and I would have been a part of one of them so it’s hard to lose a final several time and it is important for us to win this coemption as a team,” Johnson said.
The unbeaten Red Force will be aiming to continue that perfect record. Pollard said that the saying ‘you have to lose a game in a tournament’ was taken off the record in the Hero CPL. So, his Red Force team will continue to do what they have done in this season. “We are not suppositious we have to do what is necessary,” Pollard said.
