– No play at Bush Lot Balchand Baldeo and Rajiv Ivan smoked centuries as Upper Corentyne imposed themselves onto Georgetown by seizing command of the match with a day remaining, when the final round of the GCB/Jaguars 3-Day Franchise League continued at the Port Mourant Ground.
Baldeo, who resumed on 73, went on to score 107 from 133 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes while the left-handed Ivan, a former national T20 player, cracked 102 with nine fours and three maximums as Upper Corentyne racked up a monstrous 440 all out in 91.3 overs.
Kandasammy Surujnarine who made 54 on the opening day, middle-order batsman David Latchaya who grafted 69 and Joshua Ramsammy 42, were the other notable scorers for the Berbice unit.
Georgetown’s bowlers, who have been doing well in the competition, were put to the sword by the Berbicians with opener Shemroy Barrington being the surprise performer with the ball, snatching up 6-38 from 9.3 overs.
Georgetown, who made 274 all out in their first innings, were reduced to 115-6 in their second innings, 51 runs behind after pacer Clinton Pestano sliced through the batting order to claim 5-38. Raymond Perez mirrored his first innings score of 41 while Captain Paul Wintz’s 24 was the next best score.
East Coast vs. East Bank at Everest
After batting first, East Coast ended their first innings and opening day on 184-3 thanks mainly to the pair of Amir Khan (69*) and Kamesh Yadram (57*) who will resume their innings today. West Indies U19 batsman Bhaskar Yadram earlier chipped in with 38. West Demerara vs. Essequibo at Tuschen
Essequibo were 127-4 at the end of stumps on the first day with the veteran Shiv Chanderpaul solidly placed on 62 not out and his partner Chaitram Persaud 27, looking to push on. Jamal Gomes snapped up two wickets for West Demerara who managed to knock off the Essequibo top-order; Kevon Boodie (29), Kemol Savory (15), Vijai Surujpaul (05) and Kevin Christian (04).
