PCL Regional 4-Day Championships…
– even after the Pride’s loss to Red Force
The Guyana Jaguars would need to drastically improve their performance in the remaining three rounds of the Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day tournament if they hope to retain their status as the champions thereof.
Their encounter with the Leeward Islands Volcanoes was affected by rain, but went down to the wire on Sunday; and the Jaguars had to settle for a draw in the face of some stiff opposition.
They continue to trail table toppers the Barbados Pride who, despite a 148-run defeat to the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, are still sitting comfortably at the top, having picked up valuable batting and bowling points in order to remain buoyant.
The Pride’s tally has moved from 108.2 points to 116 points, while the Jaguars have increased their points’ tally by 6.8 points to 85.8 points. They earned three points for the drawn game and two points for their batting, but garnered only one point for their less-than-impressive bowling in the first innings, and 0.8 point for pace bowling.
The Hurricanes, on the other hand, were awarded three match points for the drawn game, three points for their first innings’ bowling, and two points for pace bowling; for a total garnering of eight points.
The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force were the biggest beneficiaries of points after the seventh round of these championships. The aggregated 17.4 points they bagged after their crucial win against the Barbados Pride is comprised of 12 match points, 3 bowling points, and 2.4 pace bowling points. They have thus moved to fourth place on the points table with 72.2 points.
The Windward Islands Volcanoes also garnered valuable points for bettering the Jamaica Scorpions. In the 16.8 points they received, two were for bowling, 2.8 were for pace bowling, and 12 were for the win. This tally represents the second highest collection of points in this round, and it propelled the Volcanoes to third place with 73.6 points, closely trailing the Jaguars.
The Jamaica Scorpions were awarded 3 points for batting, 3 points for bowling, and 1.4 points for pace bowling. It comprised a decent take of 7.4 points, even after being defeated. However, this loss means that the Jamaicans have dropped to 5th place on the points’ table, moving down from 3rd place.
In the eighth round of these PCL Regional 4-Day Championships, Guyana Jaguars will take on the Barbados Pride in a clash for table-top honours at the National Stadium at Providence in Guyana. The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force will battle the Windward Islands Volcanoes at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago, and the Leeward Islands Hurricanes will lock horns with the Jamaica Scorpions at the Viv Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua & Barbuda.
These day/night matches are all expected to begin at 2pm (14h) daily.
