Jamaican busted at GPOC attempting to smuggle cocaine

Less than 12 hours after a West Coast Demerara businessman was busted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with over 88 kilograms of cocaine in frozen fish, a Jamaican was nabbed at the Georgetown Post Office Corporation (GPOC) attempting to smuggle a quantity of the illegal substance in deodorant bottles.
According to reports received, the 54-year-old man was nabbed by members of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) during an inspection of the bottles on Wednesday. Reports are that during the inspection, the ranks came into contact with a strange scent, thus prompting them to check more than 20 deodorant bottles individually.
The ranks reportedly checked and found the white powdery substance which later tested positive for cocaine. The drug was weighed and amounted to 580 grams. The man was arrested and is expected to be charged shortly.
