Jamaica’s 2008 Olympic Silver medallist in both the 100m and 4x100m Kerron Stewart is expected to reach grace these shores to do battle with Guyana’s 100m record holder, United States-based, Brenessa Thompson at the Aliann Pompey (AP) Invitational, scheduled for the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora in July.
“She ran on the Penn Relays winning team in the USA vs. the World section of the programme. Stewart brings best times of 10.75 and 21.99 in the 100m and 200m respectively,” a press release stated.

Thompson won the 100m at the AP Invitational last year while Thompson has the fastest (wind-aided) 100m and 200m times of 11.15 and 22.59 respectively this season. Her legal times are 11.29 and 23.08 in that order.
“Brenessa seems poised to defend her title. Last year’s participant, Jade Bailey of Jamaica and Reyare Thomas of Trinidad and Tobago add to the world class field,” the release highlighted.
Meanwhile, Leford Green, the 2012 Olympic finalist in the 400m hurdles, with a best time of 48.47 leads the field in the men’s race at the AP Invitational. “The Jamaican was part of the quartet that demoralised the USA 4x400m team at the recently concluded Penn Relays,” the circular noted.
Additionally, it was revealed that Green will compete against a pair of Guyanese, Kelton Cumberbatch and Alistair Mclean as well as against last year’s winner from Haiti, Jojo Petite-Homme, and his compatriots Romel Lewis and Andre Clarke.
