Guyana’s premier cyclist Jamual John stopped the clock at one hour 11 minutes and 43 seconds, to clinch the top spot in the 37-mile Annual Burnham Memorial Road Race. The race pedalled off at Carifesta Avenue and headed to Belfield before returning to the point of origin for the finish.
Junior cyclist Alexander Leung dominated his category while Lyn Murray claimed the veterans’ under-50 category and Ian Jackson the over-50. Marica Dick of United We Stand won the ladies’ category.
In the Open category, John finished ahead of Murray, Team Evolution’s Christopher Griffith, Alex Mendes, Marcus Keiler, and Leung. The top three juniors were Leung, Arjune Sookhai and Akon Europe.
The top veterans under-50 are: Murray, Mendes and Paul Chooweenam. In the veterans’ over-50, Jackson, Talim Shaw and Shameer Baksh were the top riders. Dick pipped Clavicia Spencer in the female category.
This Annual Burnham Memorial Road Race, which is sponsored by Burnham Foundation and organised through the Flying Stars Cycle Club, was approved by the National COVID-19 Task Force.
