Jealous fit of rage lands Lindener before Judge, jury

A Linden man who appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday has been committed to stand trial at the High Court for the offence of attempted murder.
Dave Smartt, also known as “Brown”, is accused of chopping his ex-girlfriend and another man in a jealous fit of rage on October 4, 2019, at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden.
The prosecution contended that accused severed islander, Charles Clarke’s, left hand and dealt him several chops to his back and head during the ordeal. It is for this offence that he was committed to stand trial in the High Court. His former girlfriend, Shellon Sandiford, was also injured during the incident. For injuring her, Smartt is also facing unlawful and malicious wounding charges.
Though he was granted bail in the sum of $450,000.
Magistrate Dylon Bess on Tuesday informed the court that he was satisfied with the prosecution’s case against Smartt as he noted that a prima facie case had been made out against him.
Magistrate Bess informed Smartt that his case will be heard at the High Court where witnesses can also testify in his defence. Counsel for the accused, Yondessa Welcome, noted that the list of witnesses will be reserved for the High Court. Smartt opted not to say anything in his defence while under caution by the Magistrate.
