Jealous husband charged for attempted murder

A 25-year-old miner of Campbelltown, Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), who in a jealous rage allegedly stabbed a rival, who attempted to woo his wife, was on Tuesday afternoon hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and remanded to prison for attempted murder.

Appearing before Magistrate Fabayo Azore was Leeland Marco. The charge stated that on April 8, 2017 at Campbelltown, with intent to murder, he grievously wounded Virtual Complainant (VC), Terrence Lindo.

Accused: Leeland Marco

Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day of the incident, the accused was taking a stroll with his wife when the intoxicated VC interfered with his spouse. This led to an altercation during which Marco allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the VC.

The miner’s Attorney, however, related that his facts differed from the Prosecution’s. He told the court that the two parties had a scuffle and his client in self-defence pushed Lindo into a drain in close proximity to a construction site. He asserted that the injuries received by the VC were caused by steel rods and several sharp objects in the drain.

Marco entered a not-guilty plea and was remanded to prison after the bail application was denied. The miner’s Attorney was advised to make another submission today when his client will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

An injured Lindo is currently nursing injuries to his upper left abdomen at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
