Jefford has said that he quickly accepted the request to support the defending champions at the National Schools Championships because of his commitment to continue to contribute to the development of sports in the region and in Guyana.
He has congratulated the District, and wishes all the athletes well in their quest to represent the region.
Edison Jefford has recently hosted the annual Jefford Track and Field Classic X, an event that saw some of Guyana’s top athletes competing in different track and field events in their respective categories. At the end of that event, Cassie Small, Natasha Alder, and Jermaine Simmons emerged as champion athletes. Small won the 100m (12.02s), 200m and 400m events (one minute, 03.7s); while Alder won the women’s shot put (12.55m) as well as the women’s discuss event (37.92m). Simmons won the male discus event, and placed second in the shot put event.
As a result of major sponsors coming on board for his event, Jefford has decided to invest in the future of athletics in Guyana at its grassroots level. The male and female athletes were sponsored with prizes that came with the compliments of The Under Armor, MVP Sports, and Urban Life brands, and they included $25,000 worth of Under Armor gear and $25,000 each for the male and female champion athlete, along with trophies.
District Representative Christine Sampson has thanked Jefford for the contribution, and added that such support would help the region prepare for the upcoming challenge of defending their title at the National Schools Championships in November.
She said Jefford has sponsored all the medals and trophies for the Under-20 category.
